I used this remote switch to replace a pair of wall switches. The existing switches (two switches ganged in one box) would be inaccessible behind a tall cabinet once we finished moving furniture around. I installed the two remote modules after removing the existing toggle switches from the electrical double-gang box and mounted the double remote “toggle” switch nearby but in a fully accessible location. The electronic switch modules are smaller than the legacy toggle switches, so they fit nicely in the electrical box. The remote modules each have a small red & a green LED which indicates if the switch is in the ON (green) or OFF (red) mode. Although in most installations you probably won’t be able to see these LEDs, they do help in confirming that you’ve wired up everything correctly. Note that in order to install these inside a switch box, you MUST have white (neutral) wires inside the box. If there is no white wire(s) inside the box, the remote module will have to be installed at the fixture instead. The included switches which activate the remote modules use no batteries at all, which is extremely clever and useful. No batteries to replace, as other remote switches have! On this double-gang set, the two toggles are made slimmer so that TWO toggles fit in the space of ONE toggle, which is another huge plus: the double switch unit is exactly the same width as a single standard switch, and a standard “Decora” switch plate could be used instead of the included one, so you install the switch with any switch plate from Home Depot, Lowes, etc. The switch itself is very shallow do if you want you could simply screw the switch & switch plate assembly onto the wall directly (no box needed) or use the enclosed double-sided tape. As the entire switch assembly is so shallow and only sticks out a little from the wall, it looks fine surface mounted. The whole shebang is made in the US, and is of a very high quality. Even the wires are stranded, tinned copper; being so flexible makes it easier to install. Highly recommend this remote switch!Great for a location where a remote switch is needed but difficult to run the wires. No batteries necessary. We have bought 2 of these switches, one for a home entry where running wires would have been expensive and required an electrician’s expertise, and a second in a cabin where there would be no electrician to be had and batteries would be a real drawback. The first has been working flawlessly for 2 years so far, the other is newer but seems unfazed by temperature fluctuations in the heated only when occupied cabin. These things are GREAT! You can turn a single pole switched light to a 3 way switched light in a snap. I used this to control a pull string light in my attic. I placed the switch downstairs. Now I can actually see when I’m going up the ladder!Easy to install. Worked perfect first time. I bought the fan/light combination and thought I might have to switch leads.Worked perfect! Way easier than going in the attic and fishing new wire!Though, it is a bit on the expensive side.....but I bought 2 more!I replaced an out of reach pull chain light with this device. The instructions are clear and it was easy to install along with a new light fixture. Now we can easily turn on the ceiling light.I live in a condo that needed an extra switch installed for lights in our kitchen that were only wired to a switch in the hallway. The alternate would have been to pay someone to run wires through the wall, and so this was an easy workaround. Installation was easy, very little handyman knowledge is required; note that for wall switch replacement there does need to be a “neutral” wire in addition to the two switch wires. If the neutral wire (usually 2 white wires connected together in the wall switch junction box and/or actually connected to the existing switch) then the only way to install the switching transmitter is so do it in the actual light fixture (where the light attaches to the wall or ceiling) and not the wall switch. The instructions are minimal but most would be easy to figure it out I think. I attached the new remote switch to the wall using double-stick tape, rather than the flimsy double-stick pads that come with the switch. Kinda pricey but way cheaper and easier than actually re-wiring.They work great. You will need a constant feed or power source at the fixture box for this to work. You can simply add a pair of 3 way switches where there is no wiring for the switches. In my case, we use these in the community where the existing (old cloth) wiring is in rigid pipe in the concrete slabs and is 80 yrs old plus, and is failing due to age. In most cases its impossible to pull the old wiring old or rewire, these take care of that problem. We just have to get a feed to the ceiling light from a source in the attic, mount this relay to the existing ceiling box and thats it. the remotes can mount into the existing switch boxes, or if you desire you can use the switch mounting rings that come with them. These are a must for any electricians service truck.I have a ceiling light and a ceiling fan running in series (daisy chained) off the same line in an apartment with concrete sealing. The wall switch turns them both on or off. If I want to run the fan at night when sleeping then the ceiling light has to be on too! Yes I could unscrew the light bulb but not a very elegant nor convenient solution. Short of drilling a channel through the ceiling and installing a separate line and switch, this was the only way to use the ceiling light and the fan independently. I leave the existing light switch on keeping the circuit live; then I control the fan with its own remote and the ceiling light with its own remote wall switch. Because I bought the unit with the two remote wall switches, it also gave me the ability to control the ceiling light at the bedroom door entrance and beside the bed like a conventional 3 way switch. The instructions for wiring couldn't be simpler; the diagrams are worth a 1000 words.I was fortunate in that the remote receiver fit easily into the ceiling box; it isn't that big.I tested it before closing everything up and it worked perfectly. I made sure the receiving antenna tail was hanging down ( it is quite short ) and then installed the light fixture. (Which hides the antenna.) Everything continued to work and I walked around the room with the remote wall switch in hand to ensure proper transmission and reception before installing them in the walls. The remote wall switches are remarkable in that they never require a battery unlike every other remote device in my home! I should mention they both came preprogrammed to work with the receiver right out of the box. No fussing required. As stated by others the price is expensive but it isn't meant for solving simple conventional electrical problems; and it is certainly not as expensive as running a new separate line in a concrete ceiling, never mind the time and mess is would have created. That's why I gave it 5 stars for value. This took 20 minutes from beginning to end and I was in no rush. This seems to be a rather unique product right now and was perfect for my particular problem. I saved both money and time by purchasing this unit.
